Color and Design Trends 2011/2012
Last week I attended the Color and Design Trends 2011/2012 webinar held by Kate Smith of Sensational Color and Kiki Titterud of Kiki’s Color Couture to learn more about the latest color trends coming up this year and into 2012.
Here’s what I learned.
This year the color trends are grouped as:
 Tribal Heritage
Influenced by the rich jewel tones of the Middle East, Mexico, Mediterranean and South America, the colors in this group include raspberry wine, golden yellow, curry orange, deep sea turquoise and hillside green.  These colors are great as home accessories accents, however for those who desire a bigger impact can add these hues to their walls, furnishings and window treatments.
 Authentic Home
The colors in this group are more down to earth and toned down.  The hand-made look of these colors creates a new natural elegance and invokes a sense of vintage and nostalgic style.  They make ideal accent colors when decorated with embroidery, floral patterns or paired with furniture of Danish, Swedish, Mid-Century Mod, Retro or Minimalist styles.
 Opposites Attract
These colors range from tints that are so light but not quite white to deep, dark hues that edge towards black.  The paler pastels in this palette are softer, simpler, feminine and flirtatious.  The darker shades are masculine, mysterious and offer an escape to a different galaxy.  In the home, the lightest tints make even the smallest space appear more expansive but the same can be true for dark colors.  Dark colors in a small space can also make a room feel larger.  Adding texture can keep it interesting and a way to add details.
 Keep It in Neutral
Neutrals are always an important element for all design styles.  Create elegance by pairing neutral shades with platinum, copper, bronze or gold.  They also blend well with the hues from Authentic Home and Tribal Heritage.
